Spirent DLS 6826

The Spirent DLS 6826 is a Multi Line Wireline Simulator specifically designed to cater to the testing requirements of high-volume manufacturers of access products. It effectively emulates the insertion and return loss characteristics of a twisted copper cable, commonly referred to as a wireline. The DLS 6826 adheres to North American (ANSI) standards and offers support for bandwidths ranging from DC to 30 MHz. This comprehensive manufacturing testing platform is particularly suited for testing various DSL technologies.

The DLS 6826 is available in 8-port or 12-port configurations and is housed in a rack-mounted 6U chassis. It is capable of simulating loops of up to 15,000 feet in length. The DLS 6826 can be remotely controlled through an RS-232 port using the DLS6800 Control Application, enabling bidirectional functionality. The Control Application is compatible with Windows NT 4.0 (with service pack 4.0 and up), 2000, or XP operating systems. Configuration of the simulator is also accomplished through the RS-232 serial port. The simulated length of each wireline can be adjusted remotely using dedicated configuration software.

For seamless integration into larger test systems, the DLS 6826 offers 16 COM ports on the controlling computer. Multiple chassis can be controlled simultaneously, with automatic detection of all available serial ports between COM1 and COM16. Only the accessible COM ports will be displayed in the "Interfaces and Identification" panel within the main DLS 6800 Control Application window. The DLS 6826 is equipped with two LEDs to provide status information. The Power LED indicates the unit's operational status and can also serve as an error indicator. The Remote LED illuminates when the simulator receives a command from the control computer.

In terms of connectivity, the DLS 6826 utilizes either a female DB-25 or an RJ-45 connector and is configured as a DCE (Data Communications Equipment) device. This configuration allows for direct connection to a PC serial port. The RS-232 standard employed by the simulator is equivalent to the European V.24/V.28 standards. Notably, data transmission ceases when the RTS (Request To Send) line is low and resumes when the RTS line is high. The CTS (Clear To Send) and DSR (Data Set Ready) lines are lowered by the simulator when it is unable to receive data and raised when it can accept data. It is worth mentioning that the RTS line in this context does not align with the traditional definition of "Request To Send" as specified in the RS-232 standard. Users have the option to leave the RTS line set and utilize only the CTS line.
